If you want to skip all the fluff and simply have an intimate vow exchange and then run around and take photos, don’t let anything stop you! This is exactly what Amanda & Danny did for their intimate vow exchange in Big Sur!
How Amanda and Danny Decided on an Elopement-Style Vow Exchange in Big Sur
This elopement-style session with Amanda and Danny came about after they had already held their traditional wedding with friends and family in Southern California. Eloping in Big Sur and having a relaxed day to explore the coast together was something they had always dreamed of doing. The idea of a dreamy woodsy/coastal elopement continued to stick around even after their wedding so it wasn’t long before a new idea came about - a post-wedding session/wedding vow exchange in Big Sur!
After doing a little research, they connected with me and fell in love with the dark and moody feel of my photos. We started planning what their dream day in Big Sur would look like and before we knew it, Amanda and Danny were back in their wedding attire and we were all meeting at Big Sur for a post-wedding session.
Amanda and Danny told me that their wedding day was a blur, so they wanted a slower pace experience where they could immerse themselves into Big Sur and truly enjoy this adventure. They also didn't have the chance to do an engagement session so, in a way, this session was meant to combine celebrating their relationship in an intentional way while also highlighting their love of Big Sur. It really was the perfect setup.
Amanda and Danny’s Intimate Big Sur Elopement Session
We started the day at Glen Oaks for some photos in the redwoods before venturing out to the coast, making a few stops along the way to get more of the coastal views.
Pro tip: Glen Oaks is a lodging area in Big Sur that also doubles as an elopement/intimate wedding venue. It is a private property and one of the few locations in Big Sur for Redwoods. So if you'd like redwoods for your Big Sur elopement/session, make sure to contact Glen Oaks, and secure a place to stay there before entering their property. It's an amazing place to stay in Big Sur and a relaxing weekend there is worth every penny.
Since Amanda and Danny’s wedding day had been such a rush, they wanted this elopement-style session to be relaxed and carefree. The whole day was a go-with-the-flow kind of day, going from location to location, never in any rush. We were intentional about slowing down and soaking in each moment.
To end the day, Amanda and Danny decided to re-read their wedding vows to each other during the sunset photoshoot. We found a private location and right before they started reading, some clouds rolled in, providing the perfect lighting for photos on the coast! Amanda and Danny exchanged vows and got to experience hearing each other without the rush and worries of a wedding day. They both cried during their vows and it was such a beautiful moment to witness. The wedding vows were also a great way for them to bring more meaning and intention to the day. Instead of just having a day to take photos, it became an actual celebration of their love.
